Passed away on Thursday, December 15th at age 89 from Parkinson’s. Howard grew up in Honeoye Falls, son of the late Robert and Florence Johnston. Howard is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary, sister, Effie Steingasser, sons, Robert (Cheryl), Howard Jr. (Cindy), Gerald (Coleen), Timothy (Julie Heberle), 18 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren. Howard was predeceased by his sisters, Bernice Schranck and Lois Giancursio, brother Harold Johnston and daughter-in-law Brenda Johnston.
Howard was in the Navy and served on the USS Roanoke. He received the Korean Ambassador for Peace Medal. He was past Commander of Victor American Legion James Cooke Post 931 and a lifetime legion member. Howard was the founding partner of Amering & Johnston Mechanical Contractors. He was a lifetime member of Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 13.
Howard loved his Four Seasons Hunting/Family Camp in the Southern Tier. He enjoyed wintering at Southwinds in Sarasota, Florida where he had many friends. He was one of the original lifetime members of Victor Hills Golf Club.
Family and Friends are invited to Calling Hours Tuesday, December 27th 4-7pm at Miller Funeral and Cremation Services of Victor, Inc., 301 West Main Street, Victor. Funeral on Wednesday, December 28th 10am at St. Patrick’s Church, Victor with Burial following at Calvary Cemetery, Canandaigua. Donations may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation (WEBSITE).
