Carol A. Stehn (Cavanagh)

Henrietta – Passed away January 17, 2023 at the age of 83. She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Richard “Dick” Stehn; her parents, Henrietta and John Cavanagh; her sister, Joan Sears; her brothers-in-law Sterling (“Skip”) Sears, Robert Pirrung, and Christopher Stehn; and her nephews, Thomas Pirrung and Michael Stehn. She is survived by her children, Kerry Stehn, Daniel (Ashley) Stehn; grandchildren, Nicholas and Caitlin; sister Ruth Pirrung; brother-in-law, James Stehn and many dear family and friends.

Carol was born in Chicago and grew up in the Village of Floral Park, NY with her parents and her two sisters. She enjoyed growing up in the close knit community provided by the village and especially enjoyed family and neighborhood gatherings and always kept active playing sports.

In 1964 she married Dick and four years later they settled in Henrietta, NY with their two children where she remained until her passing. Carol was a loving wife and dedicated mother. Carol instilled her love of sports and the outdoors in her children. The family found a joy in skiing, and weekly excursions to Bristol Mountain occurred every winter for many years. Her enjoyment of basketball often included games in the driveway with the family and many members of the neighborhood. She encouraged her kids to be active and was often seen on the sidelines or in the bleachers of their sporting events. Through the years Carol loved to care for the family’s cocker spaniels and eventually her “grand dogs”.

Along with Dick, Carol also found a love for the game of golf which introduced them to lifelong friends who formed a tight knit group called “The Ladies from Hell”. Road trips, bowling leagues and endless laughter created a special bond that has lasted for years. More recently Carol enjoyed traveling to many of the US National Parks with Dick, along with a trip to Europe.

Carol was a hard worker and was particularly dedicated to her role as the office manager at Hawk Frame & Axle in Fairport. She would proudly share the many ongoing projects she helped oversee at Hawk with her grandchildren. She loved being “Gramma” to Nick and Cate, cheering them on as they participated in hockey, theater, rowing and lacrosse events.

Her love for the water and mountains centered around annual family vacations at Lake George in the Adirondacks for more than 50 years. She loved to read on the dock, watch storms come over the mountains and share laughs with her grandchildren, family and friends. Her family was blessed to have her in their lives.

Carol’s Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, January 28th at 11:00am at the Church of the Transfiguration (50 W Bloomfield Rd, Pittsford, NY 14534). Interment will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Golisano Children’s Hospital 300 East River Road, P.O.
