If ever two words were associated with anyone, selflessly generous, it would be for my brother Trevor Bryan. I can remember after finding a permanent job, after graduating from college in New York, his working at a nursing home in Manhattan. He would bring home anecdotes of how the residents were treated, I can recall he would relate to us how the management broke out the silverware when they were illicitly notified of a visit to the Nursing Home from the agency inspecting these institution in New York; then to revert to the "plastic silverware", his words, after the inspector left. Trevor wanted to report the management. He had to be strongly persuaded not to do so. Remember his was just beginning to mature. Even in college or at work he would invite a friend to his family gatherings at Christmas, New Years, Memorial Day, to have them partake of the joyous times we always had together. The Bryan family are legendary, they have a history of generosity to others coupled with a spirit of inclusion. By inclusion, I mean sharing, encouraging, supporting others to excellence. Trevor is the epitome of this trait. Trevor engages persons at the root. Students in an educational settings were always in his radar, especially foreign students within the advance educational setting. He would provide home cooking events and celebration so as to bring home to them the culture of their upbringing into the alien current experiences under which they were currently experiencing, or even struggling. He was figuratively the father away from home. Trevor never sought the aggrandizement of himself, his plan was for others to the extent that he would be unafraid to speak truth to power. If you messed up he would tell you, even if you were offended. His honesty and care in this regard was a source of contention among those close around us, it only just took us a little longer to realize Trevor was right. If anyone asks what I shall miss in his demise, it would be the overwhelming emptiness left in his passing, the energy he expended into the altruistic engagement into the life of others, not for reward, not for accreditation, not for self promotion, just because of his love for everyone.
