On February 7, 2023 our mother Dorothy Wilson passed away at the age of 83.  She was a beautiful, loving, open hearted, sweet, caring quiet person.

Dorothy was known by many names:  mom, mother, grandma, wife, Boss and we will add the “Queen of Nice”.  Our father called his angel or Dot.  On many cards he gave her in the middle of the envelope you would see a simple dot.

When Dorothy’s children were young the phrase “stay-at-home mom” didn’t exist.  It was often typical for women to stay at home with their children while their husband went to work.  But even by this so called standard she was an exceptional wife and mother.  Dorothy deeply cared for her family.  She was always ready to listen, give a hug or kiss and help out where and when needed.

Dorothy spent countless hours at swim meets, bowling, softball, hockey, and soccer games.  She was extremely knowledgeable absorbing information from books, tv, magazines, crossword puzzles and the newspaper.  She loved playing board games at the kitchen table.  She made herself a formidable opponent when playing Trivial Pursuit or Jeopardy, making “let me call my mom and ask” the original predecessor of “let me google that”.  You could often hear her humming and singing especially a line from whatever song you just reminded her of.  Pretty sure she would have been a winner on “Name that Tune”.  Even in her later years with Alzheimers Dorothy still gave out kisses on the cheek to her family and caregivers.  She also continued to enjoy listening to music and would hum and/or toe tap along.

Dorothy is survived by three of her four daughters (Pat, Louise, & Dawn), Eleven grandchildren, and Seven great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband Louis, son John, daughter Colleen, parents Charles & Chloe McCumber and sister Gloria.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held on SATURDAY February 18, 2023 at 11 AM in The All Seasons Chapel at White Haven (210 Marsh Road in Pittsford).

In lieu of flowers, our family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimers Association.
