Jonathan Leo Willson, born August 9, 1937 to Beatrice Mayer Willson and John Willson, died February 6, 2023 at home in Rochester.
Jonathan is survived by his wife of 48 years, Annella; sister, Deborah (Ronald) Priest; brother-in-law, Joseph (Shirley) Kowalewski; sister-in-law, Marcianna Caplis (Andrew MacLachlan); several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brother, Frederick “Fritz” Willson.
Jonathan attended Rome City Schools, graduating from Rome Free Academy. He served in the Air Force during the Cold War in Wiesbaden, Germany as a Mapmaker. As an avid motorist, Jonathan explored the villages and hamlets around Rochester. He enjoyed gardening, hiking in local parks and beaches and birdwatching. After retiring from a career in engineering, he served as Docent at the Rochester Museum and Science Center. Some of his other interest include nature, becoming an award-winning photographer of insects, especially butterflies. He charmed many generations of family and neighborhood cats and dogs, most recently Maisie and Emmett.
The family wishes to thank their neighbor, Erika Hagenbach, for her compassionate care given to them during this difficult time.
