Shirlee Bergeron Berry, 87, of Henrietta, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 16th, 2023. She was born in Niagara Falls in 1935, daughter of Adelard Bergeron and Elise Flanagan Bergeron. She attended Hyde Park Elementary School, then St. Mary’s High School in Niagara Falls.
Shirlee married Robert Berry in 1957 and they moved to Rochester to begin their family life together. In the early years in town, she met her “Seton ladies”, many of whom remained lifelong friends. She spent many happy years nurturing her family, children, and grandchildren through cooking, baking cookies, playing board games, making puzzles, and planning holiday celebrations.
Her work life involved caring for and educating elementary school children, primarily as a teacher’s aide in local BOCES programs. She earned a Human Services certificate from Monroe Community College in her forties. Once retired, she volunteered at the Henrietta Public Library and helped raise her grandchildren.
Shirlee will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, humor, and sweet tooth. She always found ways to make simple moments special.
In addition to her husband, Shirlee is survived by her children: Beth (Andrew) Sacco, Susan (Rod) Christian, Brett Berry, and John (Tracy) Berry; cherished grandchildren: David Sacco; Laura, Amy, and Matthew Christian; Daniel, Jenna, Sara, and Lena Berry; siblings Joanne Corsaro and Bill (Francine) Bergeron; many nieces and nephews; and godchildren Keith, Joanne, Mary Fran, Wendy, Kevin, and Brian.
Shirlee is predeceased by her sisters, Marguerite (Peggy) Kerwin and Marilyn Rougeux.
