Cornelius (Corky) Gavin Strakosh of Canandaigua, NY passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 30, 2023.
Cornelius was born 80 years ago on April 6, 1942 in Rochester, NY to Walter Conrad Strakosh and Kathleen Finucane. After completing High School at the Gow School in South Wales, NY, Corky achieved a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Colorado College and took business courses at Cornell and The University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School. Corky had a professional career in the financial industry working with Marine Midland, Paine Weber, Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley (where he was recognized by Cambridge WHO’s Who as Professional of the Year) and JMS Capital Management. He worked all over the world including in New York City, London, Paris and Rochester.
Corky was Vice president of the board of Opera Guild of Rochester, board member of The Norman Howard School where he received the Betsy Mclsaac award. He was a member of the Genesee Valley Club and Country Club Of Rochester, Bloomfield Scientific Club, supporter of the Antique Wireless Museum in Bloomfield, NY and a huge supporter of music and arts.
During this time he lived with his family in Bloomfield, NY where he and his family renovated the Adam’s House, a beautiful historical home built in the early 1800’s. He took great pride in the house and loved sharing the woodlands and gardens with his family and friends. After retiring, he moved to the tranquility of Canandaigua where he could relax and enjoy the beauty of nature. He loved his family and friends and to share the stories of his amazing life.
Loving him forever are his wife/partner Mary Lee Strakosh; daughter Barbara Strakosh of Canandaigua, NY; son Timothy Richard Strakosh (Stephanie Fisher); grandchildren Liana (mother Suzanne Strakosh-Kochersberger) and Giavanna; sisters Stephanie Whitaker (David) and Kathleen Poole (Jim); nephews Kevin Whitaker (Sue DeBloom Whitaker), Alex Whitaker (Eileen MacFarlane), Greg Schild (Kim Curcuru) and many other family members/friends.
A memorial service to be announced.
