Margers “Mike” Cubins

Pittsford: Passed away on July 14, 2023, at the age of 94. Born in Daugavpils, Latvija on June 17, 1929. He was predeceased by his parents, Janis and Anna Cubins, sister Biruta Cubins, twin sister Inta Grasis and granddaughter Alda Blatchins. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Rita (Kaune) Cubins; children, Arnold Cubins, Diana Blatchins and Inga (Eriks) Reineks; grandchildren, Inara (Zachary) Blatchins-Draxler, Maruta (Talis) Blatchins, Julija Cubins, Markus Reineks, Matiss Reineks, Jacob Cubins, Erika Cubins and Emma Cubins; great grandson Dezzy Draxler and extended family in North America and his native Latvija.

Affectionately known as “Miks” or “Vecpaps” by his grandchildren, Margers was a proud Army Veteran serving during the Korean War. He was an avid reader and fisherman, an exceptional athlete, a highly skilled carpenter, and successful small business owner. Margers was fiercely proud of his Latvian Heritage. He was a patriot to his birth country Latvija and his adopted country, the United States, of which he became a naturalized citizen.

Family and friends are invited to call on Saturday, July 22, 2023, from 4-7 PM at Miller Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., 3325 Winton Road South Rochester, NY. Funeral services will be held in the Interfaith Chapel of the funeral home on Sunday, July 23, 2023, at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Latvian Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Cross in Rochester or Lestenes Military Cemetery in Latvija in memory of Margers Cubins (Donations may be mailed to the Miller Funeral and Cremation Services, 3325 Winton Road South, Rochester, NY 14623).
