Walter Bear LaRaus passed away in his home in Victor, NY, on July 18, 2023 at the age of 75.

Walter, often called Walt by those who knew him, was born to Julius and Sadie LaRaus on December 29, 1947, as the youngest of four children in Norwalk Connecticut. He graduated from college in Buffalo before making his home in Rochester, NY. He was a long-time employee of the Purchasing Department for Monroe County before retiring after 37 years of dedicated service.

Walt is survived by his wife of 33 years, Suzanne “Sue” LaRaus, daughter Katherine “Kate” LaRaus, stepchildren Andrea (Rob Erickson) Colyer and Troy (Ivy Gannon) Colyer, siblings Patti Lazarus and her husband Jim McKenzie. Walt was predeceased by his parents, Julius and Sadie as well as siblings Roger LaRaus and Barbara Kupitz.

Walt played sports all his life including baseball and volleyball as well as taking up golf once he retired. He was also known to be a wine connoisseur and enjoyed visiting the local vineyards with Sue. Walt was charming and fun to be around and enjoyed spending time with friends.

As per Walt’s request, no funeral or memorial service will be held.
