Bryan G. Powers, P. E.

VICTOR – Bryan G. Powers, P. E. passed away peacefully at home on August 4, 2023 at the age of 60 after a graceful and dignified battle with ALS. Bryan was predeceased by his parents, Edward & Beverly Powers. He is survived by his wife of 32 years Cathy Powers, daughter Austyn Powers & son-in-law Will Barlock, siblings Karyn (David) Kaplan and Eric (Heather) Powers, as well as many nieces, nephews and other extended family.

Born on March 6, 1963 in Rochester, New York, Bryan was the oldest of three kids to Edward and Beverly Powers. In June of 1971, Bryan and his family moved to Upland, California where he developed many happy memories. Among them were the large in-ground swimming pool in the backyard, riding his bike in the alley behind the house, adopting a pet tortoise named Speed, exciting Boy Scout adventures in the mountains and family ski trips. The Powers family returned to the Rochester area in 1976.

Bryan attended Alfred State College for two years followed by Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), where he obtained his degree in civil engineering. Bryan started his career at The Sear Brown Group, which eventually became Stantec. Bryan became a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of New York and designed many residential and commercial properties. After 20 years he began working for Mark IV Enterprises, where his dream of helping to build a golf course came true.

Cathy and Bryan met in 1988 and married in 1991. Together they raised their daughter, Austyn. Bryan enjoyed many hobbies including golf, water and snow skiing, coaching Austyn’s soccer teams, puttering with cars, wood working in his shop, and home and yard improvement projects. Bryan enjoyed summer weekends at Seneca Lake where he was instrumental in many projects and a house addition for his parents. He loved boating, swimming, planting the annual flowerpots and observing what was happening around the lake while relaxing and reading a John Grisham book. Bryan was dedicated to his bowling and golf leagues, in which he participated for over 30 years and made countless wonderful friends.

A memorial service for Bryan will be held on Tuesday, August 15, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Mountain Rise United Church of Christ, 2 Mountain Rise, Fairport, NY 14450.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Upstate New York Chapter of the ALS Association at or 125 Old Cove Road, Suite 213, Liverpool, NY 13090.
