Marilyn Schrack Kane of Pittsford, New York, passed away on August 13, 2023, at the age of 96. Marilyn was a longtime resident of Irondequoit and Pittsford.
Marilyn was a warm and loving lady who enjoyed life to the fullest. She was gracious, generous, friendly and passionately loved her family. During her lifetime, she volunteered with the American Red Cross, Literacy Volunteers of America and was an active volunteer at her church. In 2006 she moved to Cloverwood Independent Living in Pittsford with her loving husband Bob of 58 years. As one of the original residents there, she assisted with the development of many programs for the residents. She founded the Halloween play which she planned and performed in. She started and played in several bridge groups and played to the end of her life, always as the scorekeeper. She taught water aerobics, worked in the shop and was at the center of planning street parties or dinners for friends. She was a devoted Buffalo Bills fan in good years and bad and would join her neighbors watching the weekly games during the season.
Marilyn was born in Niagara Falls, New York, on April 15, 1927, where she was the 5th of 6 children. She attended William Smith College in Geneva, New York. It is there where she met her husband, Robert E. Kane, (Bob) who had returned from the war and was attending neighboring Hobart College. Bob preceded her in death in September, 2007.
She is survived by her three children; Doug Kane and his wife Diane (Heber City, Utah); Barb Roberts and her husband Mike (Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida); and Sue Buck and her husband Jim (Pittsford, New York). She has 7 grandchildren; Sarah Bridge, Rob Kane, Katie Suiters, Kurt Roberts, Kelsi Dunning, Karli Corrigan, and Chloe Dunning. Marilyn was also affectionately known as Gigi to her 8 great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Christ Church in Pittsford at noon on Sunday, September 3. Her final resting place will take place privately, where she will be reunited with her husband in Irondequoit, New York.
