Betty Thomas (Isabelle Schuler, Shea)

West Brighton. Betty passed away on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at age 83. She was predeceased by the love of her life, husband Lloyd, parents Nicholas and Louisa Schuler and her loving companion and faithful dog, Oliver. She is survived by her family and many, many friends who loved her.

Betty was a teacher in the Rush-Henrietta School District for 36 years and served as the teacher center director the last four years of her tenure. She was a devout parishioner at St. Anne’s Church and very active in several organizations, most notably the Ladies’ Auxiliary, Knights of St. John where she was Supreme President. Betty was also president of her district auxiliary and auxiliary #44. In her church, she was on the parish council, was a eucharistic minister and lector, and she formed and chaired the solace committee. For the Diocese of Rochester, she chaired the oversight committee which devised the pastoral plan for the Brighton churches. Over her lifetime, Betty was president of the Nazareth Academy Alumnae Association, class agent for Nazareth College alumnae, and secretary of the Rush-Henrietta Educators Association.

From Nazareth College she earned a BA, and from the University of Rochester, she received her master of arts. Betty also liked to travel…from coast to coast in the US, 15 countries in Europe, the Caribbean, Hawaii and a memorable trip to Ghana, West Africa. She loved public speaking and hosted many banquets for her various organizations.

Family and friends are invited to call on Monday, September 11 from 4-7 P.M. at Miller Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., 3325 Winton Road South. Betty’s Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, September 12 at 10 A.M. at Saint Anne Church, 1600 Mount Hope Avenue, Rochester, NY 14620. Interment will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Anne Church in Betty’s memory.
