Greg Knowles
Rochester – Passed away September 14, 2023 at the age of 77.
Predeceased by his parents, Alfred & Susan Knowles. Survived by his cousins, Linda Orrell-Fair, Laurie Stoutz, Suzanne Ray, Harold (Diane) Opdyke, Jody (Jesse) Fair-Roberts, Andy (Lizzy) Orrell, Amy (Bjorn) Ireland-Laukli, Heather (Gary Snyder) Ireland; many extended family and church friends; lifelong friend, Jack Zufall.
Greg had cerebral palsy but lived a full and meaningful life. Living in Havana Cuba for 7 years, finishing high school, writing a book, travelling on several mission trips with Perinton Presbyterian Church, and living independently for 11 years. His determination and stubbornness allowed him to learn to ride bike, swim, water ski, and drive a car.
Although two brain surgeries at age 18 left Greg with more challenges he soldiered through and had many more adventures and accomplishments. These included a trip to Cuba with his minister, Ed Bonner and his cousins, Linda Orrell-Fair and Laurie Stoutz. While in Havana he visited his childhood homes and the school he attended. He enjoyed 2 trips to the Dansville airport where he went soaring in a glider. Greg attended Pittsford schools, graduated from High School in Wayne NJ and received a Bachelors Degree from Patterson State in NJ. He was an Elder at the Perinton Presbyterian Church, as well as serving on various committees.
Greg was a friendly, kind and caring individual. His stubbornness and independence helped him accomplish so much. Greg’s courage is to be admired. His sense of humor helped him to make many friends. He was loved by all that new him.
Gregory’s Memorial Service will be held on SATURDAY, September 30th, at 11 AM at Perinton Presbyterian Church (6511 Pittsford Palmyra Rd, Fairport, NY 14450). Interment private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Perinton Presbyterian Church.
