                            John Edward David

                  May 23, 1938 – December 5, 2023

John Edward David, a devoted family man and cherished member of the Rush, NY community, passed away suddenly at the age of 85 1/2 on December 5th, 2023, at his Rush residence. Born in Rochester, NY, on May 23, 1938, to Emil and Grace David, John’s early years on a Rush farm instilled in him a profound work ethic and unwavering sense of responsibility.

Educated in the Rush Henrietta School system, he furthered his studies at Cornell University, specializing in Agronomy and extension teaching. John’s lifelong dedication to agriculture and community service defined his character.

In a love story that spanned 62 years, John married his soulmate, Mary Ann Bartholmay-David. Together, they raised their beloved sons, Mark (Debby) David and Karl David, nurturing a close-knit and supportive family. John treasured every moment with his children and grandchildren, including Holly ((Frankie Trigg)) David and Erica ((Chris Dodd)) David. His great-grandchildren, Gabriella Trigg, Logan, Roman, Nora, and Farrah Dodd, were a source of immense joy.

John is survived by his cherished wife, Mary Ann, and a loving family that spans generations. He leaves behind a legacy marked by unwavering commitment to family, community, and faith.

John’s devotion to the community was steadfast.  He served as Rush Town Justice and dedicated numerous years as Rush Highway Superintendent where he modernized the department, leaving an enduring impact on the town he held dear. His faith remained steadfast, as he was a lifelong member of The Rush United Methodist Church and served on The Rush Pinehill Cemetery Board for over half a century.

A champion of community, nature, fishing, and gardening, John left an indelible impression on those he encountered. His wisdom, courage, and practical knowledge, garnered from a life well-lived, continue to inspire.

A memorial service in honor of John’s remarkable life will be held on Saturday December 16th at 1 pm at The Rush United Methodist Church 6200 Rush-Lima Rd, Rush, NY 14543. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to The Rush United Methodist Church 6200 Rush-Lima Rd, Rush, NY 14543 in John’s memory. (Donate Online)
