Passed away peacefully at home on 23 January 2024 with his dog, Daisy, by his side. Born in Fort Madison, Iowa on 7 May 1930 to the late Rose Thurman Murphy, Buddy graduated from Catholic Center High School, Western Illinois University, and Chicago Academy of Fine Arts.
He served his country during the Korean War with the Air Force, stationed at the 38th parallel.
As the Assistant to the Chief Curate and the Chief Curate of doll houses and miniatures at the Woodbury Strong Museum, Buddy decorated the White House Christmas tree under the Carter administration in 1978. Upon retirement, Buddy promptly started Upstate Gallery Antiques on Gardner Park. He loved collecting and even sold some.
Buddy was a founding and sustaining member of the National Miniature Society.
Buddy’s friends were his family. He is survived by Gretchen and Albert Zenner and their son, August; Carmen and Dennis Rollins and their children Paige, Evan and Kristen; Pat and Dan Carroll; Ruth Fried and Josh Herz; Clement Leonardo; Mary Kay Allen and Scott Braun; and Buddy’s many dear friends at the Legacy at Erie Station.
In lieu of flowers, Buddy loved all animals, especially those he called his own, so please direct any memorial contributions to Lollypop Farm Humane Society [DONATE ONLINE], or the animal shelter of your choice.
