Viola Elizabeth Alexander Turner, passed away peacefully in her home February 1, 2024 at the age of 95. She was born to Hazel and Alethia Hammond Alexander, in Eustis Florida, on January 17, 1929. Viola was the third of ten children. Predeceased by her parents Hazel and Alethia Alexander; Husband Rufus Turner; Brothers Hazel Alexander Jr. and Clarence Alexander; Sisters Alethia Alexander, Ertha Lee Shaw, Betty Jean Alexander, and Pansey Alexander Dubois; Daughter Jeronette Cleveland (Samuel Cleveland); Son Darnell Sanders.

She is survived by her son Luther Sanders (Cheryl Thompson) Grandchildren; Angel Jones, Demond Davidson, Ebony Sanders, London Paris G. Sanders, Luther Sanders, Jasmine Casado, Shante Orange/Nelson, Therone Lee Johnson, Salina Sanders, Darnell Sanders, Sherrall Sanders, Aeyshah Manning, Autumn Lake; Sisters Ophelia Davis and Gladys Huges; Brother Clifford Alexander; and many great grandchildren; she also leaves a host of family, friends, and community.

Viola moved to Rochester in July 1956 and was employed for 37 years by the University of Rochester, Strong Memorial Hospital. In 1968, she became a licensed Practical Nurse and then in 1990 Operations Materials Manager/Supervisor. Elder Turner and Via co-founded Camp Ground Church of Jesus Christ in 1978. In 1989, she received a Bachelor’s Degree in ministry from Rhema Bible College. Viola was a pillar in the community, she loved to serve people.

Friends and family are invited to call from 11:00 AM – 12 Noon, followed by a 12:00 Service, all held on Friday, February 9, 2023, at Miller Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc. 3325 Winton Rd. South. Interment at Grove Place Cemetery.
