Joann McCarthy Droske, of Fairport, NY passed away peacefully in the early hours of March 11, 2024. She was 85 years of age. Born to Charles McCarthy a smiling Irishman and Sara Minns a shy woman of English descent on the warm day of August 19th, 1938 in Wilkinsburg Pa. She had the most striking blue eyes one could imagine and a smile that lit up any room she entered. Joann met the love of her life, her passion and her soulmate Richard Droske at a young age and knew immediately they were a match for the ages. Once Rich convinced her parents his intentions were honorable, off they went on the back of his motorcycle to explore the world and find adventure. Joann worked as a secretary in Pittsburgh after graduating from Turtle Creek High School and after marriage soon became a mother to Denise (Oct. ’58) shortly followed by Rick (December ’59) and then brought Diane into the mix to round out the family (Aug. ’62). After getting the kids through their early years she ventured to college and received a degree in Nursing from Genesee Community College and returned to work as a registered nurse. Rich’s work with the Veterans Administration took them across the country and back, living in eight states before retiring to Fairport, New York where they could enjoy their grandchildren. Joann loved antiquing, dining out, helping her husband renovate their homes, crafting and cooking. Her famous onion soup, macaroni salad and apple and pecan pies remain her grandchildren’s favorites to this day.

Joann was predeceased by her cherished husband Richard S. Droske and her beloved son Richard Droske who sadly both passed away in 2015. Joann is survived by her adoring daughters, Denise Pontillo, of Fairport, and Diane Lois, of New York, N.Y.; sons-in-law, David Pontillo and Luke Lois; precious grandchildren, David Pontillo and his wife, Suzanna, Kasey Perkins and her husband, Henry, George Lois and Alexander Lois; her five magical great-grandchildren, Nora, Lena, Nicholas, Henry and Paige, her brother-in law, Ronald Droske and his wife, Alice; sisters- in-law, Loretta Cole, Isabel Thomas and husband, Burt, Marylou Crosby and husband, Steve, and Ada Sklenar and husband, John, devoted friend Marion Heisler and many loved nieces and nephews and cousins.

We love you Nana and you are forever in our hearts.

At the direction of the deceased, a small family memorial will be privately held at a later date.

If you would like to do something in honor her life, please pass along her good will and help someone in need.
