Dr. Mohan Koparkar, a world-renowned astrologer passed away in his sleep on April 14, 2024. He had been at Sodus Nursing Home in Sodus, New York for the past eighteen months. Mohan was a kind and friendly soul.
Mohan was born in Pune, India on October 12, 1946, to Ramchandra and Malati Koparkar. A brilliant mathematician and a Mechanical Engineer by training, Mohan came to the U.S. in 1968 to study towards his doctorate degree in Mechanical Engineering. He graduated from University of Rochester in 1972 with a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering.
After that achievement, he decided not to pursue Engineering but to be a professional in his beloved field of Astrology. While growing up in India, he had studied astrology and palmistry on his own. He would sit in libraries reading ancient treatise on Vedic astrology and taking notes. He used to go to renowned astrologers to compare and debate his observations with theirs.
Over the course of the last fifty years, he guided thousands of individuals through astrology, palmistry, tarot cards and his uncanny psychic abilities. His clients included famous businessmen, university professors, doctors, nurses and many other professionals.
He wrote six famous books on astrology geared towards astrology professionals. He served on the board of American Federation of Astrologers. He had a generalized astrological prediction service on Rochester Telephone in the 1980s and also wrote a weekly column in Rochester Free Press. He taught astrology to many.
He was a creative chef of various Indian dishes and loved to cook. He had a wicked sense of humor and entertained his friends often.
He is survived by his older sister Anuradha Hingwe (Padma Koparkar), his younger brothers Suresh (Manjiri) and Anand, his brother-in-law Anil Hingwe, his nieces Suchitra Webster (Roger), Swapna Felton Hingwe (Brent), Shilpa Hingwe (Eric Nelson) and his nephew Saurabh Koparkar; and four grandnieces (Kiran Webster, Tara Webster, Shivani Nelson and Leela Nelson) and two grandnephews (Nikhil and Rohan Felton Hingwe).
A short memorial service will be held in his honor at Miller Funeral Home located at 3325 S. Winton Road, Rochester from 9.15 a.m. to 10.00 a.m. on Wednesday April 17, 2024. The service will be followed by cremation with only family members in attendance.
A lunch will be served at 12.00 noon on Wednesday, April 17th at Thali Restaurant located at 3259 S. Winton Road, Rochester.
