Robert Shepherd passed away peacefully on April 26th, 2024 at the age of 83 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Montour Falls, NY, he spent his formative years a farm
in Odessa, NY, where he attended Odessa Central School before embarking on a remarkable journey of service and dedication.

Robert’s commitment to duty led him to enlist in the Navy in 1957 where he served as acorpsmen with distinction. Rising through the ranks, he retired in 1980 as a Senior Chief Petty Officer (E8), having served in Vietnam and stationed in Guam and Antartica. Notably, he was a proud member of the inaugural crew of the USS Nimitz (CVN 68).

After retiring from the Navy, Robert went on to receive a Bachelor’s degree in Business from RIT in 1984. He worked in management positions at various nursing homes in the Rochester area. He worked at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester for many years as well. He retired for good after working at Big Lots in Henrietta. Robert was very active, for almost 30 years, at St. Peter’s Episcopal church in Henrietta.

Robert is predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Judy, a son, Rodney, and his parents Isabelle and Harlowe Shepherd. He is survived by his son Craig, daughter-in-law Renée and cherished grandsons Matthew, Cooper, Mason and Jackson.

Robert’s gentle spirit, unwavering kindness, and enduring legacy will continue to touch the
lives of those who knew him.

A service to honor his memory at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Henrietta will be on June 1st at 11am. Reception to follow.

Donations can be made in Robert’s memory to St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Henrietta.
