Myra Louise “Birdie” Carrier, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away on July 9th, 2024, at the age of 89. She is predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Robert Carrier, her sons Robert and Thomas and her parents, James and Elmira Somerville. She is survived by her brother James (Earla) Somerville, her children: Kathy (Mark) Anibal, David (Lauri) Carrier, Susan (Bill) Lipe, Kim (Tom) Simpson and Carolyn Carrier; her grandchildren: Austin (Maria), Ben (Brittany) and David Anibal; Robert, Peter (Anna), Joseph and Katie Carrier; Charlie, Hannah and Sam Lipe; Tori, Tyler and Cooper Simpson; Jake, Max and Abby Hopfinger; and her great-grandchildren: Isabella, Mason, Lucy, Brayden and Emmie.
Birdie was born and raised in Mountain Lakes, NJ and received a teaching degree from the University of Rochester. She taught at Brighton Schools, prior to devoting her time to raising a large family. In addition to her role as mom, she served as a Deacon at church, was on the Monroe 1 BOCES board of education, and actively supported Heritage Christian Services, helping to establish one of the first private group homes for disabled adults in our community.
Birdie loved her Fishers home as a spot for raising her large family, a family that continues to grow exponentially. The family “farm” brought many adventures, from raising a variety of animals, to gardening and ‘farm to table’ use of nature’s bounty. The families home in Cape Cod brought family, rest, relaxation and birdwatching. She was a lover of travel, an avid reader, and had a passion for learning. She was a talented artist and worked at a variety of mediums such as quilting, painting, pastels, sculpting and knitting.
To those who knew her she was kind, generous, intelligent, loving, creative, witty, compassionate and a strong advocate for her children. Participation in the garden and book clubs, involvement in Church activities as well as playing tennis and golf brought her great joy.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Services will be held on August 17, 2024 at 1:00 pm at the First Presbyterian Church in Pittsford.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Heritage Christian Services.
