Thomas Benjamin Michaels passed away peacefully on August 17, 2024. He was born in Rochester, NY, the only child of Oscar and Emma (Cory) Michaels. Tom is survived by his wife of more than 57 years, Patricia (Scanlan) Michaels; their two children, Deborah (Jonathan Larson) and Alan (Victoria); his two grandsons, Alexander and Tyler; and his close cousin Karen DeVito.
Tom put himself through college, earning a B.S. from RIT and an M.S. from the U of R, both in electrical engineering. He had a curious and creative mind. He could repair anything, and during his 30-year career at Xerox earned a score of patents. He found joy in life’s simple pleasures, such as Pat’s cooking, feeding birds, singing, and gardening. He had a knack for learning languages, and used his talent on international trips. Tom relished a competitive game of pinochle, the card game which was a family tradition. We will remember him for his sense of humor, clever puns, straightforward wisdom, and his devotion to family and friends.
A memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, October 5, at noon, at the Church of the Transfiguration in Pittsford. In lieu of flowers, please send any donations to the Church of the Transfiguration Christmas Basket Fund.
