On July 6, 2024, Joanne M. Meininger died peacefully surrounded by her family. Joanne was born June 14, 1936, in Buffalo, NY, daughter of Leona and Frederick Roesch. She is predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Warner K. Meininger.

Joanne raised her 3 children, David Meininger, Karen (Meininger) Breer and Jennifer Meininger as a stay at home mother until she started working part-time in the Registrar’s Office at Rochester Institute of Technology in 1973. She then worked full time at RIT for 22 years, rising to the position of assistant to the Registrar.  After retirement, Joanne and Warner took volunteer positions at the Genesee Country Museum, where Joanne worked as a docent in the art museum.

Family was the center of Joanne’s life and she devoted her time to her children; taking them to music lessons, sports events, concerts and plays.  She had a love of reading, especially American history and read many books over the years.  While on family trips to historical places, she would often incorporate “history lessons” so her children would understand the sacrifices and strengths of our forebears.  Many of the family trips were to the Adirondack mountains where the family would camp, canoe, hike and enjoy each other. Some of her favorite places to stay in the Adirondacks were Covewood Lodge on Big Moose Lake and The Hedges on Blue Mountain Lake. She would often visit the Museum on Blue Mountain Lake where she was a member for years.  She also loved vacationing on Sanibel Island with her family as well as other spots on the east coast.  Joanne would light up when her children and grandchildren would visit.  Baking and cooking for the family was her forte and her holiday meals were unrivaled.  As a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Chili and later the First Presbyterian Church of Pittsford, Joanne was very involved in the church doing community work, volunteering and knitting circles.

Donations to the Sunset House of Irondequoit NY are appreciated: HOME.  A family celebration of her life will be held in September 2024 in Buffalo NY.
