In the comfort of her home and surrounded by loved ones, Pamela Elizabeth McCarthy Finger Delles passed peacefully on October 20th, 2024.
Pam was known for her huge heart, quick wit, loyalty, and care of family and friends. She always had a love of helping others and giving counsel.
Pam was born on August 17th, 1949 in Syracuse, New York to Gene and Henry McCarthy (predeceased). She was known as the loving matriarch of her family. The eldest of five sisters, she is survived by Deborah Boland (Daniel), Sandra McCarthy, Linda McCarthy (Laura Taht), and Melissa Withers (Lloyd). Pam grew up in Marcellus, NY and attended SUNY Oswego, where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree. Soon after, she married her childhood sweetheart, Dave Finger, Sr. (predeceased). Together, they raised two children in Fairport, NY – Jennifer Finger and David Finger, Jr. (Julie). As the kids grew older, Pam went back to earn her Master’s Degree in Social Work from Syracuse University.
Pam began her career as a therapist at Catholic Charities and soon after launched a successful private practice specializing in adults and couples work. She fully embraced her love for learning and continued her education by attending conferences throughout the country on a regular basis. Pam also enjoyed educating others and gave presentations on a whole host of topics throughout her community. She leaves behind a robust network of colleagues and friends from coast to coast. She enhanced the lives of many in her professional career.
After the passing of her husband, Dave, Sr., Pam was able to find love again in the next chapter of her life. She married John Delles in 2011. They spent their marriage enjoying the things they had a mutual love for – family, dogs, celebrations, world travels, time on the water, and grandchildren. Pam is also survived by her husband John Delles, his daughters, Renée Boyce (Michael), Desirée Porter (Matthew), and his four grandchildren.
Pam spent every summer of her life at her most favorite place, Thousand Island Park on Wellesley Island, NY, enjoying her beloved “Watermelon Cottage” for almost 50 years. A fifth generation resident, she shared her love and joy of TI Park with her six grandchildren, as well as spending summer days with them on the beach at Maple Island. She was a woman of strong faith and a long-time member of Perinton Presbyterian Church where she sang in the choir.
No day will pass without missing her… she will always be over the river and in our hearts.
Special thanks to care givers who helped support her through her illness, such as Wilmot Cancer Center, Hospice of Jefferson County, and UR Home Care of Rochester.
Calling hours will be on Friday, October 25th from 4-7pm at Miller Funeral Home, 3325 Winton Rd. South, Rochester, NY 14623. Her funeral service will be the following day, Saturday, October 26th, at 11am at Perinton Presbyterian Church, 6511 Pittsford Palmyra Rd., Fairport, NY 14450.
