James Barry obituary (2/5/1954-10/25/2024)
James Barry died on Friday, October 25, in Strong Memorial Hospital, after suffering a stroke in his home in Gates. He was 70.
He was born February 5,1954, in Neath-Port-Talbot, Wales, UK. He was the youngest of four children born to Richard David Barry and Sarah Minnie George Barry (later Cooper).
James moved to the USA in 1979 with his then-wife Marcia Wilson Barry. After they settled in Rochester, NY, James began his training with a local recording company. James went on to hold a variety of jobs — including time as a videographer for WXXI and the City of Rochester, and later as a truck driver and a property manager.
He is fondly remembered for his charm and humor and sense of adventure. James called many cities around the world his home at different times of his life. In recent years, he traveled to Egypt, India and Italy. He was an avid photographer. Always seeking the perfect picture. He enjoyed collecting – everything from souvenirs to stamps, coins and artifacts. And he was interested in history, particularly that of Wales and of his family.
He is survived by his sons Morgan Rhys Barry (Tracy Jean) and Gareth FitzGerald Barry; his second wife, Marcia Wilson Barry; his third wife Mary Jo Carbonaro; his sister Joan O’Sullivan (late John); and his brother Tom Barry (Pam) and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother, father, and brother Alan Barry.
Friends and family are invited to a remembrance of his life, on Saturday, November 9, from 3-6 p.m at 265 Maplewood Ave., Rochester, 14613.
