MARIE T. McCOY

MARCH 19, 1949 – JANUARY 30, 2025

Entered to rest January 30, 2025 with her family at her side after a brief illness.

She leaves behind her husband of 53 years, Neil, son Steven (Susan) and daughter Janet (Jon). Grandsons Daniel and David. The oldest of eleven children she always set a wonderful example of love and understanding. “You don’t always have to agree, but you always have to care.” became one of her favorite quotes.

Marie received a BA degree in education from SUNY Oneonta, NY in 1972 and a permanent teaching certificate from SUNY Upper Division, Utica, NY in 1973 Her first employment was teaching second grade at Waterville Central in 1973. In 1974, she and Neil moved to Syracuse where Steve and Janet were born and where she began raising her family and substitute teaching. In 1982, the family moved to Rochester, NY.

Religion was very important to Marie and in 1984, she began teaching sixth grade at St John the Evangelist, Greece, NY, where she continued until the school closed. Many lasting friendships with fellow staff and clergy continue to this day and Marie was very happy there.

In 2010, Marie retired and with Neil they traveled a bit to places in Alaska, Europe and the various states where her siblings lived. But, she was most happy with a pair of knitting needles or needlepoint surrounded by family and a bit of Bailey’s Irish Cream. She was a long time member of the Genesee Valley Chapter of The Embroiderers Guild of America and received awards for her many works at embroidery shows and The New York State Fair.

Friends and family are invited to call from 4:00 – 7:00 PM on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at Miller Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc. 3325 Winton Rd. South.
