Sandra E. Steffens
Sandra E. Steffens, “Sandy” was a cherished member of the community at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Henrietta, died on January 21st, 2025. Her family were long-time members of the parish and she will be deeply missed by several of the members there. During her time at St. Peter’s she served as a lector, helped with the altar guild, was an acolyte, and after several years of assisting in training acolytes, she became a Crucifer, and a Eucharistic Minister to help serve wine during the communion services. She loved being with others in the community and volunteered for multiple church activities including dinner fundraisers, an annual fundraiser “Running with the Angels,” and enjoyed serving community breakfasts on the first Wednesday of each month. For many years she volunteered with her mother at the Episcopal Church Home and was involved in the TipTop Shoppe and recreation department there. She also volunteered with the Ronald MacDonald House. Sandy was a member of the Order of the Daughters of the King, an order in The Episcopal Church whose mission is steeped in prayer, tradition, and serving others. Sandy was also the one who made the most palm crosses for the Palm Sunday service every year at the beginning of Holy Week. In her spare time, she loved to write. She wrote greeting cards when someone fell ill, she wrote poetry and created poems for her friends and members of the church. She loved her dog, Snoopy, and her cat.
Sandy is preceded in death by her mother Ethyl V. and her father Robert A., her brother Ronald (partner Terry Spicola) and cousins Charles Steffens (Linda), William Stewart (Susan), Barbara Ravellette and Scott Stewart (Susan). She is survived by her cousins Peggy Steffens (Charles Hanson), Wayne Stewart (Beverly) and David Stewart (Barbara).
A service for the dead and celebration of life for both Ethyl and Sandy will be on Sunday, March 2nd at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Henrietta, NY at 10:00am. A graveside service will follow later with family members at Hillcrest Cemetery in Hamburg, NY.
In place of flowers, donations may be made to St. Peter’s Memorial Fund(St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Henrietta) and Highland Hospital Auxillary.
