George Merton James, 72, went to be with the Lord on October 29, 2024 at his home in Henrietta, NY. Born December 18, 1951 in Auburn, New York, George was the oldest son of the late Merton C. James and Iris A. James (Follett). A celebration of his life was held November 2, 2024 at New Life Assembly, 64 Calkins Road, Rochester, New York.
He graduated from Clarkson University with a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and later achieved his Professional Engineering certification. After graduation, he accepted a position at Bechtel Power Corp., where he was employed for 43 years, until his retirement in 2017.
George was a man of God who always put his faith, family, and others first. His life’s goal was to raise his children to love the Lord and be productive citizens. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.
George’s greatest joy came from attending New Life Assembly and worshipping Jesus, hiking in the Adirondacks, riding his dirt bike, and spending time with his family. He especially loved being with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
George is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Connie; his children Jeremy (Erika) James of Science Hill, KY; Monica (Craig) Plante of West Henrietta, NY; and Ginger (Eric) Schuster of Oostburg, WI. He is further survived by his brothers Terry (Judy) James of Lawrenceville, PA; Roger (Sandy) James of West Henrietta, NY; sister Aimee (Brian) Hansen of Syracuse, NY; fifteen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, five brothers-in-law and their spouses, one sister-in-law, and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by brother-in-law Stephen Jacks, and mother-in-law Ethel Jacks.
The family would like to thank George’s church family at New Life Assembly, the team at University of Rochester Hospice, and his two private aides Kentassja and Maria.
Donations can be made in his memory to the Parkinson’s Foundation.
