Carol Crerar Green went home to be with God on March 16, 2025, at the age of 87. She passed away in her home of 63 years in Henrietta in the company of her family. Carol was born in Rochester on January 1, 1938, to John and Audrey Crerar. She attended Good Council Grammar School, Our Lady of Mercy High School and LeMoyne College. She married her husband of 65 years, George (Chuck) Green in 1959.
Carol is survived by her husband Chuck, and their 6 children and their families as follows: Margaret (Gregory) Lull and grandchildren Suzanna (David) Pontillo and Julia Lull; Michael (Karen) Green and grandchildren Meghan (Jay) Haney and Victoria (Patrick) O’Flynn; Thomas (Regina) Green and grandchildren Connor and Shannon Green; Sheila (Joseph) Steigerwald and grandchildren Nicole (Zach) Kraemer-Steigerwald, Jessica, Ian and Noah Steigerwald; Ned (Lisa) Green and grandchildren Mitch and Mikayla Green; and Stephen (Jennifer) Green and grandchildren George, Grace and Clara Green. She is also survived by 9 great-grandchildren – Eleanor, Carolena, Nicholas, Olivia, Sophie, Ryan, Evan, Maya, and Liam. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Marie James and Katherine Crerar, and predeceased by her brother, John Crerar.
For years Carol was a stay-at-home Mom, raising six children. She worked with the local cub scout and girl scout programs. Later, Carol taught grammar school at Holy Rosary School for nine years.
Carol was committed to her relationship with God and Church. She attended daily mass at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Henrietta for mass for years. She was a lector, pray-er, sang in the Resurrection Choir for 20 years and was a member of the Good Shepherd – Saint Michael’s parish partnership. She worked on food collection at Good Shepherd for those in need at St. Michael’s, and did food delivery for the Rush Henrietta food cupboard. She taught religious education, confirmation preparation and RCIA at Good Shepherd and St. Michael’s.
Carol loved the outdoors. She and Chuck tent camped in the Adirondacks, National Parks across the country and St. Johns, V. I. She loved riding her bike and ice skating, both of which she did into her late seventies, and particularly enjoyed her walks with friends. She loved gardening, playing bridge and was a passionate reader, particularly enjoying historical books. She was also a poet, quietly sharing poems she wrote with loved ones.
Carol had a positive impact on so many people during her life and is appreciated and missed by all she touched.
