Frank Michael Suriani, recently of Victor, New York, and previously of The Bronx, New York passed away on March 30, 2025, at the age of 90. Frank was born to the late Peter George Suriani and Anna Virginia Suriani (nee Raimondi) on February 17, 1935. Frank is survived by and will be greatly missed by his loving family, including his three children, Peter T. Suriani (Lisa), Christine Suriani Neenan (Kevin), and Alice Ann Suriani (James Blake); grandchildren, Michael Suriani and Christopher Suriani and Emily Neenan and Kaylea Neenan; nephews and nieces, Susan Suriani Hughes (Doug), Donna Suriani Lashower (Leonard), Peter J. Suriani (Pat), Annette Suriani, Rosellen Suriani DelPrincipe (Michael), Jeanne Mason Lyles (Bill), Eileen Mason Kittrell (Sean), and Thomas Edward Mason, their children and grandchildren and many wonderful friends.

Frank graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School in the Bronx, NY in 1952; received both his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in 1957 and his Master of Business Administration degree in Corporate Finance from Manhattan College in Riverdale, NY in 1980. He was a member of the Alpha Phi Delta fraternity from 1952 to 1957 and served in the United States Army beginning in 1958. He was stationed in the United States Audit Agency in Paris, France and was Honorably Discharged in 1963. Early in his professional career, Frank worked for KPMG, transitioned to American Express and eventually retired from Chase Manhattan Bank in NYC.
While born in the Melrose section of the Bronx, Frank was an extremely active member of his post-marriage-adopted communities of Woodlawn and Saint Barnabas Roman Catholic Church. He served as a Eucharistic Minister, Lector, occasional Altar Server, and Driver for Meals-on-Wheels. He coached Wood-Lean Youth Baseball and Softball teams, drove his neighbors to doctor’s appointments and grocery stores, and spent time visiting and being company to the homebound, sick and infirmed. A first-generation Italian American, he was also extremely proud of his “honorary” membership in the Ancient Order of Hibernians that was bestowed upon him due to his community activities in the predominantly Irish enclave of Woodlawn, and the cultural appreciation he developed from exposure to the countless hours of WFUV’s Irish music programs his beloved wife and mother-in-law would enjoy! Neighbors referred to Frank as “… a Woodlawn institution”, “… a staple in our community”, “… an Oneida [Avenue] icon”, “… a wonderful and kind man”, “… a kind, pure soul”, and “… blessed to have known him”.
Frank enjoyed spending time with his family, particularly his grandchildren. He always looked forward to attending their events including athletic games, performances, award ceremonies, and birthday parties. He would regale others about the grandchildren’s latest accomplishments and adventures. There wasn’t a soapbox made that he wouldn’t pontificate from! In fact, once he got started, people knew to make themselves comfortable because he had the innate ability to “make a short story long”! On the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of his marriage to his wife, Mary, he enjoyed a Royal Caribbean cruise returning to the island he visited on his honeymoon, Bermuda; but this time in addition to traveling with his wife, he brought an entourage consisting of his children and grandchildren to celebrate and create many wonderful memories.
The youngest of four children, Frank was extremely proud of his siblings and their accomplishments. His parents instilled in him and his siblings that they should never be jealous of others’ accomplishments and good fortune; rather to be happy, celebrate and rejoice with them. Any blessings they should be privileged to receive needed to be shared. These teachings were further passed along to their children and grandchildren.
Additionally, Frank was an example to his children of self-sacrifice and putting others before himself. Many evenings, he would come home from a long, tiring day at work wanting nothing more than to relax, have a nice dinner, watch a little television and get to bed early before repeating the “rat-race” the next morning. However, his children would disrupt those plans by revealing, “Dad, I have a paper due tomorrow”. He would work through the night with his children, without complaint, after his initial admonishment of “why do you always wait until the last minute”, to proofread what they wrote and recommend changes, edits, and revisions that would improve the cohesiveness and structure of the paper. Needless to say, Frank got an “A” on those papers and his children now appreciate how much effort it takes to do a job properly.
Frank was predeceased by his beloved wife, Mary, who he was married to for 54 years; his parents; sister, Philomena Suriani Grafenecker, and her husband William (Bill); brother, Louis Suriani and his wife Santa (Tina); brother, Sebastian Suriani and his wife Mary; brother-in-law, John Mason, his first wife, Dorothy (whose death preceded his) and his second wife, Betty.
