James W. Taylor
Avon: Jim Taylor passed away on January 6, 2026 at age 82. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Joyce; their four children, Christopher (Wendy) Taylor, Kathie Taylor, Mary Kay (Bill) Kelley and Bill (Kim) Taylor; 9 grandchildren, Connor & Mattison Taylor, Mason, Rory & Kieran Kelley, Matthew, Olivia, Robert & Luke Taylor; brother, John (Marcia) Taylor; and brothers-in-law, Kem Mackey, Dick (Dulcie) Mackey & Brent Mackey. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Anna Taylor.
Jim grew up on Walzford Road in Irondequoit and was a proud graduate of St. Salome’s Grammar School, the Aquinas Institute, and the University of Rochester where he earned his bachelor’s degree in history. He spent his career working at Wegmans, managing stores in Geneseo and on Mt. Hope Avenue in Rochester, retiring in 1997 after 38 years of dedicated service. He raised his family in Geneseo and spent his retirement years in Avon.
Jim found his greatest joy in time spent with his wife, children, and grandchildren. To him, family was everything. He was an avid baker, a creative inventor, and a great storyteller. There was rarely a problem he couldn’t solve, and he never lacked for clever ideas. In retirement Jim enjoyed shopping, leading exercise classes, making cookie cakes and desserts for every occasion, and spending time at McDonald’s with his wife Joyce and their friends. Jim cherished the many friendships he built within the Avon community.
Family and friends are invited to call FRIDAY, January 9, 2026 from 2-6 PM at Miller Funeral and Cremation Services (3325 Winton Rd S.). Funeral services will be celebrated on SATURDAY, January 10, 2026 at 12 PM in the chapel at the funeral home. Internment to follow at Riverside Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Avon Central Presbyterian Church (133 Genesee Street, Avon, NY 14414) in his memory.
