Carolann Darling passed away peacefully on January 15th, 2026, surrounded by her family after almost a yearlong battle with B-cell lymphoma, at the age of 65. She is predeceased by her father, William J. Stehling Sr., as well as her father- and mother- in-laws, Richard and Jean Darling. Carolann is survived by her loving husband of 42 years James “Jim” Darling; mother, Susan Stehling; beloved daughters Amanda (Hunter) Riddick and DeAnna (Michael) Brennan; granddaughters Hazel and Molly Brennan; siblings Susan (David) Mistretta and William J (Jessica Westcott) Stehling Jr.; nephews and niece William (Sarah) Mistretta, Joseph (Kayla Terry) and Meghan Mistretta; grand-nephew Rowan Mistretta; aunt Phyllis Stehling; beloved cousins; Jim’s brothers and sisters-in-laws, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews and dear friends.
Carolann was born August 9, 1960, in West Islip, NY. She was a 1978 graduate of Victor High School and later attended Houghton College, graduating in 1982. She was married to the love of her life on July 16th, 1983, at St. Patrick’s in Victor, NY. She received her certification as an ultrasonographer through RIT in 1984. Carolann and Jim made many dear friends during their time living in Albany NY, Charleston SC, Reading PA, Advance NC, and finally, their home of over 25 years, in Groton, NY.
Carolann enjoyed working in retail at The Bon-Ton, Talbots, and most recently at Wegmans. She was never bored with her work and always enjoyed the repeat customers she saw there, many of whom she got to know quite well. She was briefly in remission in the fall of 2025 and was excited to be able to return to work at Wegmans for a short time.
Carolann was involved with her church. She had a passion for music and leading young people on their walk with Christ. For most of her adult life she was involved as a youth group leader or helping with music ministry. She was an active member of the pro-life movement and an advocate for crisis pregnancy centers including Birthright of Ithaca.
Carolann will be remembered for her devotion to God and family, her kindness toward others, and for her radiating faith. She was known for her positive and generous spirit. She expressed deep gratitude for all those who sent encouragement, prayers, cards, and meals during her cancer treatment. She will be deeply missed by many.
