Hugh O. Peebles, Jr. of Pittsford, NY passed away on February 9, 2021.
Hugh was born in Kountze, TX on May 4, 1933. Upon graduation from Kountze High School, he continued his education at the University of Texas and finished at Oklahoma State University with a PhD in Physics. Hugh continued his academic pursuits as a professor at Lamar University in Beaumont, TX where he taught for 30+ years, guiding his many students through the difficult equations of astrophysics, quantum mechanics and sometimes just everyday life.
He loved sports, teaching his sons to play baseball and golf, and his daughters to play tennis and golf. Upon retirement, he moved to Pittsford NY and enjoyed watching soccer, theater performances, and playing as much golf as he could with his wonderful friends.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Truman, son Jan and his wife Darlene, daughter Shirley, daughter Pam and her husband Jay, son Scott, grandchildren Hank, Jill, Jordan, Laura, Anna, Marcella and Wiley, great-grandchildren Micah, Demi, Landry and Adrienne, sister-in-law Pam, sister-in-law Coretta and her husband JT, nieces Kim and her husband Greg, Paige and her husband Clay, nephew Paul and his wife Anne, and nephew James. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Wiley, nephew Wiley Hugh, and son-in-law Don.
In keeping with Hugh’s final wishes, there will be no formal funeral service. His cremation is being handled by Miller Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc. in Rochester. His family will celebrate his life with a private memorial service on a future date.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Wallace Johnson, his physician of many years, especially for his care in his final chapter.
