Robert “Bob” McGovern, beloved husband, father, and mentor, passed away March 24, 2026 at age 85 leaving behind a lifetime of adventure and curiosity.

Bob was predeceased by his parents, Robert J. McGovern and Emma Wilson McGovern; brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Sara McGovern; brother-in-law, David Valastro; daughter-in-law, Lelia Monaghan. He is survived by his loving wife, Ann McGovern; children, Cindy (Mike Eifert) McGovern, Bob McGovern, Christina (Steven) Weaver and Allison (Andrew) Burr; grandchildren, Emily (Matt Delehey) Eifert, Julia (Young Un Choi) Eifert, Jonathan (Jami) Weaver, Hannah (Lexie Blackwell) Weaver, Heather (Drew Forster) Weaver, Benjamin Burr, Michael Burr and Matthew Burr; sister-in-law, Diane (Pedro) Velez; several nieces and nephews

Bob earned his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Delaware Valley University located just North of Philadelphia, PA and later completed his master’s degree at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). His passion for science led him to a long and meaningful career as a chemist at Eastman Kodak.

While working in research at Kodak, Bob met his wife Ann, beginning a relationship that would span decades and shape a life full of shared experiences. Together they took great pleasure in exploring the world and traveled widely visiting places such as Italy, Greece, the United Kingdom, France and Hawaii, along with many trips across the United States.

Bob was known for his playful spirit and sense of humor, always ready with a clever prank or joke to bring a smile to those around him. Never one to shy away from an adventure, Bob enjoyed hang-gliding at Bristol Mountain, embracing the thrill of soaring above the landscape. He loved flying kites with his children and filling their days with fun. He never outgrew the joy of being young and kids sensed that; around him there was always motion, games, and the promise of laughter.

A lifelong passion for astronomy became one of Bob’s most rewarding pursuits. He was a Fellow of the Rochester Academy of Science and was fortunate to turn one of his favorite hobbies into a lasting and inspiring venture, sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm with colleagues, young astronomers, and family alike. His dedication to science left a profound impression on all who had the privilege of learning from and with him. Bob was a great teacher to us all, but his collaborative attitude let him learn from us at the same time.

Bob’s skill, craftsmanship, and problem-solving abilities, both in science and in construction, left a lasting impression on his family. Through his example, he inspired his children and grandchildren to pursue their own paths with curiosity, discipline, and pride in their work, guiding them toward successful and fulfilling careers.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife, family, and many friends whose lives he brightened.

There will be a celebration of life the afternoon of August 15, 2026 – those interested in attending may e-mail Ann McGovern at – ann_mcgovern@hotmail.com  – for details
