Nella Johanna (Verheul) Edelman passed peacefully on April 6, 2026.
Nella was born in Weesperkarspel, The Netherlands on December 18, 1959. Nella is predeceased by her parents Emma (Griffioen) Verheul and Rocus Verheul and her brother Rocus Verheul. Nella is also survived by two sisters: Alie (Verheul) Edwards and Bill Edwards, and Marga Verheul and Hans Roon.
Nella grew up in The Netherlands and came to Canada in 1980 to visit her sister Alie. While visiting, Nella and her sister Marga, traveled to the states where they met Nella’s future husband, Robert, while camping in the Grand Canyon. Nella and Robert were married in 1981 and Nella pursued her career in nursing. She received her degree as an LPN in New York State and worked at Woodside Manor and St. John’s Home. She took great pride in caring for her patients. She became a citizen of the United States in July of 2012.
Nella is survived by her husband of 44 years Robert Edelman. She is also survived by six children: Danielle (Edelman) Howell and Justin Howell along with their two children Niyah and Joseph; Stephanie (Edelman) Willard along with her four children Elijah, Tristan, Camaren, and Ashlynn; Mark Edelman and Lyndsay (Wildman) along with their four children Caden, Harper, Savanna, and Tyler; Kimberly (Edelman) Carlascio and Matt Carlascio along with their two children Matthew Joseph(MJ) and Nora; Eric Edelman, and Sean Edelman.
Nella was a very proud mother of six, who loved to bake, read, exercise, do puzzles and take care of plants. Nella’s greatest love of all was her husband, Bob. Nella was proud of all her children and their accomplishments as students, athletes, and fine young women and men. She was also very proud of her 12 grandchildren who range in age from 2-21. For a number of years we traveled to Cape Cod for a summer vacation and Nella always looked forward to being on the beach with her children and grandchildren.
Nella is also survived by sisters and brothers in law, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins who live in the United States, Canada, and The Netherlands.
