Stephanie Allen Gogstetter passed away on April 24th, 2026, at the age of 83, in Rochester, NY, where she spent the last decade of her life. She was born Stephanie Wolf Allen on December 21st, 1942 in New Lebanon, OH.
Stephanie and her four siblings were raised in New Lebanon by their mother Kathryn and father Esburn. At one point, Esburn delivered bread, had a garage for multiple bread trucks, and also rented space for antique cars. Later, he worked for Ethan Allen. Kathryn played organ in church, and gave piano and organ lessons in their home.
On January 26th, 1963, Stephanie married John Gogstetter; they moved to Pittsburgh, PA later that year. John happened to be the son of Stephanie’s employer, dentist Harrison Gogstetter. Stephanie and John had three sons and were married for 55 years, until John passed on November 8th, 2018.
John worked for Dentsply International in dental sales. When their sons were younger, Stephanie was a stay-at-home mother, and was very involved in the school PTA. Then, Stephanie worked at an engineer’s office doing clerical work, and after that, she worked for the County Water Authority.
Stephanie loved playing the flute; she began in high school, then took it back up in her 30s. She played in her church and also in the flute choir of Duquesne University. In recent years, over the holidays, she played duets with her grandchild Úna, who is currently a senior at Smith College in Northampton, MA.
Stephanie was a great cook. She watched Julia Child on PBS in the 1970s and made her family French-inspired food. Additionally, she liked to bake a wide array of delicious Christmas cookies for her family every year.
In her later years, Stephanie enjoyed watching the birds that would visit her yard, such as cardinals, orioles, finches, woodpeckers, and blue jays. She made sure her many bird feeders were never empty.
Stephanie is predeceased by her sister Marcia. She is survived by her twin brother Stuart (Nancy); sisters Romita and Candy; sons Scott (Isobel), Dean, and Darin (Elizabeth Dupuis); grandchild Úna; and many dear nieces and nephews. Stephanie will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Family and friends are invited to call from 10 AM to 12 PM at the All Seasons Chapel of White Haven Memorial Park (210 Marsh Road, Pittsford, NY 14534) on Thursday, April 30, 2026, with Stephanie’s funeral service to take place at 12 PM. Interment will also take place at White Haven Memorial Park.
