In Loving Memory of Erlinda “Nelly” Alfante Gadiano Hall
Passed on June 28, 2026 at the age of 67.
To her friends in New York, she was affectionately known as Day Lin. To her family, she will always be our beloved Nelly.
Erlinda “Nelly” Alfante Gadiano Hall was the fourth of ten children born into a humble family whose greatest treasures were faith, perseverance, and love for one another. Life was not always easy. From an early age, she embraced responsibility with remarkable maturity. She temporarily set aside her own education to care for her younger brother, Henry, placing the needs of her family before her own dreams. Even as a young girl, she worked tirelessly, accompanying a friend to Carbon Market in Cebu City on weekends to sell spices and household goods, helping provide for her family during difficult times.
Yet hardship never diminished her determination. Instead, it became the foundation upon which she built a life marked by resilience, integrity, and hope. Through hard work and perseverance, she completed both her high school and college education. While employed in a plumbing office, she also became an Avon and Personal Collection dealer, faithfully seeking every opportunity to build a better future through honest work and sacrifice.
After marrying the late Thomas Hall, Jr., Erlinda immigrated to the United States with her beloved daughter, Stephanie, where she built a life rooted in faith, family, service, and community. Although she began a new life thousands of miles away from home, her heart never left her family in the Philippines. Once she became financially stable, she quietly and generously invested in the lives of others. She helped support the education of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives, enabling many to complete college and pursue successful careers. She understood that education transforms lives, and she willingly made countless sacrifices so others could enjoy opportunities she herself had worked so hard to achieve.
But Erlinda’s generosity extended far beyond financial support. She gave freely of her time, her talents, her encouragement, and her love. She found a second family in her faith community as a devoted member of Bukas Loob sa Diyos (BLD), where she faithfully served after completing Life in the Spirit Seminar #2 in 1992 and remained an active and committed servant-leader throughout her life. She was also a devoted member of the BBFFL Group and faithfully served for many years as an officer of the Filipino American Association of Rochester (FAAR). Whether organizing events, welcoming newcomers, serving in ministry, or simply offering a listening ear, she lived her faith not merely in words but through joyful, humble, and selfless service.
Above all, Erlinda’s greatest joy and proudest accomplishment was her family. She was an extraordinary mother to her beloved daughter, Stephanie, whom she loved beyond measure. Through every season of life, she remained Stephanie’s greatest source of encouragement, support, trusted confidante, and constant companion. She celebrated every success, carried every burden alongside her daughter, and never hesitated to place Stephanie’s needs before her own.
When Stephanie married Lief, Erlinda welcomed him not merely as a son-in-law but as the son she deeply loved and cherished. She embraced him with warmth, kindness, and genuine affection, making him feel like family from the very beginning.
Nothing brought Erlinda greater happiness than becoming a grandmother to her precious Adriana. She treasured every moment they shared and delighted in watching her granddaughter grow. Whether celebrating milestones, attending special occasions, offering gentle guidance, or simply enjoying time together, Erlinda poured out her love without reservation. Adriana was one of God’s greatest gifts to her life and one of the greatest joys of her heart.
Stephanie, Leif, and Adriana were truly blessed to have such an extraordinary mother and grandmother. She was the heart of their family—selfless, compassionate, generous, prayerful, and endlessly giving. She loved unconditionally, forgave readily, encouraged constantly, and prayed faithfully. Her home was always open, her table was always welcoming, and her heart always had room for one more person. She found joy in caring for those she loved, often placing their needs before her own. The values she instilled, the memories she created, and the unconditional love she shared will forever remain the greatest treasures she leaves behind.
Among her many gifts was an extraordinary ability to bring people together in support of a worthy cause. Within both BBFFL and FAAR, Erlinda became legendary for selling event tickets. Whether it was a fundraiser, banquet, dance, anniversary celebration, or community gathering, she was almost always the highest ticket seller. Yet her success was never simply about selling tickets. People bought tickets because they loved Erlinda. They trusted her, admired her, and wanted to support whatever she believed in. Her warmth, sincerity, infectious enthusiasm, and genuine care for others inspired people to say “yes.” She had an extraordinary gift for building relationships, bringing people together, and making everyone feel valued—a gift that reflected the generous heart God had given her.
To know Erlinda was to experience genuine warmth. She possessed a rare gift for making everyone feel welcomed, valued, and loved. She delighted in celebrations, community gatherings, church events, and simple moments shared over meals and conversation. Her radiant smile, infectious laughter, generous hospitality, and compassionate heart brightened every room she entered. She had an extraordinary ability to build lasting friendships and make every person feel like family. Wherever she went, she left behind not only fond memories but also a lasting impression of kindness, humility, and genuine love.
She will be remembered as a devoted daughter, loving sister, faithful wife, cherished mother, adored grandmother, beloved aunt, loyal friend, and humble servant of God. She was hardworking yet gentle, generous yet humble, strong yet compassionate. Her life was not measured by material success but by the countless lives she uplifted, encouraged, and blessed through her quiet acts of love and selfless service.
Perhaps Erlinda’s greatest legacy is not found in what she possessed but in what she gave away—her kindness, her faith, her generosity, her love, and the hope she inspired in others. She leaves behind a family strengthened by her sacrifices, a community enriched by her service, and countless hearts forever touched by her compassion.
Today, while our hearts ache with the pain of separation, they are also filled with profound gratitude. We thank God for the priceless gift of Erlinda’s life. She showed us what it means to love selflessly, to persevere faithfully, to serve joyfully, and to trust in God’s providence through every season of life. Though we grieve her absence, we rejoice in the hope that she now rests in the eternal embrace of our loving Father—the reward promised to those who have faithfully followed Him.
Dearest Nelly, your earthly journey has ended, but your legacy lives on in every life you touched, every dream you helped fulfill, every act of kindness you inspired, and every heart that will forever carry your memory.
We will miss your beautiful smile, your joyful laughter, your gentle presence, and your loving heart more than words can express. Yet we entrust you to the Lord whom you faithfully served throughout your life, confident that He has welcomed you into His heavenly kingdom, where there is no more sorrow, no more pain, and no more tears.
Thank you, Dearest Nelly, for teaching us how to love without counting the cost, how to serve without seeking recognition, and how to live a life rooted in faith, generosity, compassion, and unwavering trust in God. The seeds of goodness you planted will continue to bear fruit in the lives of your family, your friends, and the countless people you blessed throughout your remarkable journey.
Your life was a blessing.
Your memory is a treasure.
Your love is a gift that death cannot take away.Until that glorious day when we are reunited in Christ, may you rest peacefully in the loving arms of our Savior.
“Well done, good and faithful servant… Enter into the joy of your master.”
