Nancy Lee (Maloy) Loeffler, 80, passed away on June 28th, 2026, after a hard-fought battle with cancer.
Nancy was born on April 2nd, 1946, in Alexandria Bay, NY, to Maurice (d.2005) and Doris (d.1987) (Schermerhorn) Maloy. She grew up on the Schermerhorn family farm and graduated from Hammond Central School in 1964.
She met Anson James “Jim” Wightman (d.1992) while both were working at Stanley Home Products in Syracuse, NY, married June 17th, 1967, and moved to Phoenix, NY, where she was a pre-school teachers’ aide, Order of the Eastern Star member, and leader of her children’s Campfire group. She and her family spent many memorable summers at Schermerhorn Landing assisting her parents with the operation of the family restaurant, the D&M Diner, and enjoying the beautiful St. Lawrence River.
In 1985, she and her family moved to Norwich, NY, where she worked at the South New Berlin Central School, Preferred Mutual Ins Co, and DCMO BOCES over the years, while attending night classes to attain her associate’s degree in accounting (AAS) in 1995. On June 28th, 2007, she married her long-term companion, Jerrold “Jack” Loeffler, (d.2013).
She had a true sense of adventure and loved to travel, drive beautiful cars, and try new things, like whitewater rafting, learning to ride a motorcycle, and fly a plane. She also never passed up the chance for a good conversation or a good book. She was active in her community and above all, she was deeply devoted to her family and friends and was known for her kindness, generosity, and love. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her sister, Janet (John) Nicol; brother, Gary Maloy; three children, Robin (Dennis) Avolio, Anson (Rochelle) Wightman, and Eric Wightman; six grandchildren, Lindsay (Devin Winchester) Avolio, Maggie (Omar Awan) Avolio, Amy Avolio, Joseph Avolio, Alexandra Wightman, and Tanner (Mikenna) Wightman; one great-granddaughter, Josie Winchester; as well as many beloved step-children, step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to one of these organizations that she supported: the South New Berlin Free Library, the South New Berlin Fire Department, or the American Cancer Society Golisano Hope Lodge, in Rochester, NY.
A celebration of Nancy’s life will be held on July 11th, from 2-4 P.M. at the South New Berlin Fire Dept. Private burial will be in Fineview Cemetery, Hammond.
