Barry Lee Ackerman, 65, was called to his eternal home on June 27th, 2026, after a 4 ½ year battle with Early Onset Alzheimer’s Disease. Barry was born in Madison, WI on February 15, 1961.
He followed in his big brothers’ footsteps and joined the Navy in 1981, serving as an Avionics Technician on the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower. After the Navy, Barry followed a friend to Rochester for work, which is where he met his future wife. Barry’s career started with Intergraph corporation, the Sear-Brown group, and finally with Stantec Consulting as their Network Architect. He worked with an amazing group of men and women.
Barry is pre-deceased by his father, Harold “Bud”, and brother, Dale. Surviving Barry are his mom, Mary Jane Cypher of Madison, and step-father, Venard, his step-sister, Joy, of West Chester, PA, and her husband, Adrian. His soulmate, his wife of 37 years, Sue, sons Kyle (27) and Aaron (24), and his ‘little girl’, his Shiba Inu, Presha.
Barry was a lifelong Green Bay Packers fan, and loved to camp with family and friends, travel with his family, and talk about Navy jets, and outer space. He had an infectious giggle. He has left a huge hole in his absence, as he touched so many.
The family would like to thank the amazing nurses, and the 1:1 aides, at Highland Hospital, who comforted Barry through his final weeks, especially those on 7 East. At the family’s request there will be no services. Maybe Billy Joel was right, only the good die young.
