John (Birdman) McCarthy Erdman

Passed away after a battle with cancer on July 20, 2026, at the age of 67.

John was predeceased by his grandparents, John and Mary Elizabeth McCarthy; parents, Tom and Alice Erdman; and his sister, Catherine St. George. He is survived by his children, Bridget (Matthew) Erdman Sartain, and Kevin Erdman; his partner, Sylvia Neil; siblings, Tom and Anne Erdman; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

John grew up on High Street in Victor, NY with his three siblings and beloved parents. He talked often about his idyllic childhood and love of sports and all the fun (and trouble) he had with his best friends who he stayed close with until his passing. John developed a deep love of music early on and that continued throughout his life, it was rare that he wasn’t blasting a tune and grooving around. He was a masterful storyteller and one of the funniest guys in the room. The only thing he loved more than music was golf, which he played up until he couldn’t swing anymore.

Some of his favorite memories were meeting his father for 6 AM tee time after a bit too much fun the night before, he always bragged he still never missed one. He bought a house next door to his parents after the birth of his children and raised them on High Street just like he was. He loved his son and daughter more than anything and they each had an incredibly special and unbreakable bond with him. John spent fourteen years with his adored long-term partner, and together they traveled to many amazing places, most importantly Ireland where he said he felt the magic of his ancestors. John was one of a kind, and someone you would remember even if you only met him once. He will be missed dearly by his family and friends and remembered everyday.

graveside service will be held at 12:00 PM on SUNDAY, August 23, 2026, St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Victor. A celebration of life will be held afterwards at 2092 Cox Road in Bloomfield.
