David A. Kinsky, 86, passed away in his home on Monday, September 14, 2026, surrounded by family and loved ones.
Dave was the beloved husband of Judy Bayer Kinsky, with whom he shared 47 years of marriage. As dementia took his memories and his voice, whenever we showed him a picture of Judy, he would always say “That’s Judy! She is my best friend”. And he was hers. Together they built a life filled with love, laughter, traditions, and memories spanning generations.
A lifelong Rochesterian, Dave grew up in Swillburg, and founded the ‘Dirty Dave Gang,’ a raucous crew of cousins and neighborhood friends whose adventures became part of the fabric of his childhood. He graduated from Aquinas Institute, Class of 1957, and St. John Fisher College, Class of 1962, but Dave and his siblings held a special place in their hearts for their K-8 St. Boniface schooling. He carried a special pride participating in a stage production of “Oklahoma” that his sister Joan directed and those songs will echo in our halls forever. He was so proud of his alma maters and remained deeply connected to both throughout his life.
Dave loved funny and classic movies, musicals, and was an avid reader. There were a plethora of movie lines that stuck with him that he would use in good humor. He was known to break out into song on a whim, “The Ballad of High Noon” or “Oh, what a Beautiful Morning!” were favorites, and often started his day either belting out the lyrics or whistling the tune.
Dave coached Little League baseball in his younger years, with many a Swillburg neighbor on his team. But it was the game of Golf that became his greatest passion as a member of Green Hills Golf Club in Mendon,The Cape Club in Palm City, Florida and Cobblestone Creek CC and Community in Victor, New York. “Mister Chairman” of the Skins Game and Three Hole in Ones earned him his reputation as “The Greatest Golfer in the Ehmann Family” according to his brother and golf partner Mike Kinsky.
After his high school graduation, he proudly served his country enlisting in the Marine Corps and was honorably discharged as a Corporal. Afterward, he made his career with Cooley Business Forms, starting out as a very successful Salesman and finishing his career as President.
But perhaps nothing brought Dave more joy than being a dad, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He loved Disney almost as much as his grandchildren did, but what he may have loved even more was a good game of cards. Some of our fondest memories are of gathering around the table for a few loud, competitive, and thoroughly entertaining rounds of Oh Hell or Euchre, often played well into the night. There was plenty of laughter, a fair amount of arguing over the rules, and, of course, no shortage of unsolicited advice.
Dave’s family was his greatest legacy. He leaves behind a large and loving family whose lives were shaped by generations of shared experiences, family gatherings, stories, sports, laughter, and traditions.
Dave was the proud father of Michele, Dan (Deb), Terry (Karla), and Joe (Christy). He was a cherished grandfather to Danielle (Taylor), Nick, Megan (Alyssa), Christopher, Samantha, TJ, Kaitlin, Grace, Charlie, Claire, Jenna, and Kami, and a proud great-grandfather to Marlee, Winnie, and Krew.
Dave is survived by his siblings Joan Ryan, Paula Staiger, Steve (Susy), and Mike (Mary), and brother-in-law Joe Fischer, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
He was predeceased by his first wife and mother of his children; Suzanne Metz Kinsky; his siblings and spouses; Rev. Richard Kinsky, John Kinsky (Kay), Bob Kinsky (Barb), Ted Kinsky (Betty), Mary Ann Fischer, and Judy (Rich) Gage, and by Jim Ryan, Larry Staiger, George Kukla, Steve Bayer (Diane, Tiffany Lill), and Mickey Bayer (Laurie) and daughter-in-law; Christina Pineda Kinsky.
The family is especially grateful to Eva Moore, Dave’s caregiver and an angel to the family, for the extraordinary love, kindness, and care she gave him.
Those who knew and loved Dave will forever remember his beautiful blue eyes and his unmistakable smile. His stories, his laughter, his favorite sayings, and his wonderfully larger-than-life personality will live on in all those fortunate enough to have known him.
And in a fitting final curtain, Dave left this life listening to Frank Sinatra sing My Way. Perhaps there could be no more Dave-like way to take his final bow.
“For when the One Great Scorer comes to write against your name, he writes not that you won or lost, but how you played the game.”
May he rest in peace.
The Family kindly suggests that donations be made in Dave’s memory to Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation [Donate Online] and Steel Lillies-Wilmot Cancer Institute [Donate Online], two organizations that reflect causes close to his heart.
David’s Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, November 8, 2026 from 12 PM – 3 PM at Cobblestone Creek Country Club – 100 Cobble Creek Rd. Victor, NY 14564 – Click for Directions.
