Rita C. Taranto, 90, of Naples, FL, formerly of Fairport passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at home in Irondequoit, NY. Predeceased by her husband, Michael Taranto Jr who died on May 27, 1997. Rita is survived by her children, Michael (Lauren) Taranto, Catherine (Steve) Resh, Jane (Bob) Shengulet and Christine (Jeff) Raab, three granddaughters, Angelina (Teddy) Libby, Nicole (Roy) Pigford, Margaret Resh (Patrick), two grandsons, Edward (Lisa) Resh and Vincent Resh (Lindsey), five great-grandchildren, Michael, Ethan, Bennett, Noah and Juliann, sister-in law Eleanor Marzano, nieces Barbara, Joanne, Diana nephews, Vincent, Robert, Victor, Matthew, several great-nieces, great-nephews and beloved friends.
Rita and her husband Michael were Eucharistic Ministers at Assumption Church in Fairport, NY and St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church, Naples, FL. Rita loved animals and owned dogs and cats. Her cat Sassy was her constant companion for 19 years.
The family wishes to express sincere thanks to the ElderOne Hudson Staff, including the nurses and caregivers in her apartment building who lovingly cared for her. The family also wishes to extend gratitude to the staff at St. Ann’s Durand Senior Center.
Calling hours will be held Monday, August 16, 2021, from 4 to 7 PM at Miller Funeral Home, 3325 Winton Road South, Rochester, NY 14623. Her Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, August 17, 2021 St. John of Rochester, 8 Wickford Way Fairport, NY 14450, at 11 AM. The Mass will be Livestream at www.stjohnfairport.org. Interment at a later date in Naples, FL.
