Dr. William B. Crowley, DDS passed away peacefully, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by loved ones on October 4, 2020. Reunited with his loving wife of 56 years and source of his joy, Sally Delbridge Crowley (July 2017). Bill is also predeceased by his brother, James Crowley and sister-in-law, Nancy Delbridge McCartney. Bill is survived by his seven children, James, Margaret, Maureen (Emad Botros, MD) Elizabeth (Paul C. Harrington, MD), Daniel (Claudette), Catherine (Tom McLaughlin), and William, 11 grandchildren: Mikayla, Ian, Evan, Daniel, Mary, Brian, Ruth, Joan, Tom, Sean and Sarah, sister, Mary (“Betty”) Crowley, sister-in-law, Patricia Kelly Crowley, cousins and loved ones in Ireland, many nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends.

Born July 5, 1932, Bill grew up in Rochester’s 19th Ward on Hawley St, attended St. Monica’s Grammar School and graduated from Aquinas Institute 1950. He was proud of his Irish lineage; his parents Margaret Hegarty and James, both of County Cork Ireland, ventured separately to the States in the early 1900’s. They impressed upon their children the importance of faith, education, family, resourcefulness and hard work. After graduating from St. Bonaventure, Bill continued onto Georgetown School of Dentistry, receiving his degree in 1959. Following Army service in Korea, Bill and Sally married and resided in Arlington, VA. They returned to Rochester where they raised their family and Bill completed his residency in Orthodontics at University of Rochester Eastman Dental Center. A sole private-practitioner for 42 years, Bill continued in general dentistry at Groveland Correctional Facility, retiring in 2016. Bill’s penchant for all things farm-related; owning tractors, visiting dairy farms, attending cattle markets and agricultural shows, was indication of the enduring link to his Irish-agrarian heritage. Bill never grew tired of reading and discussing WWI and WWII history, Winston Churchill, investing in the stock market, and mechanical engines, especially air-cooled VW’s. Many benefitted from Bill’s quiet generosity throughout the years. Like snowflakes and diamonds, Bill had many unique facets and was truly one of a kind.

Numerous individuals dedicated remarkable, compassionate care to Bill in his last week at home, allowing his wishes to be fulfilled. The family extends abundant appreciation to Wendy Wade, Kristin Kildea, RN, of Isaiah House and their respective care teams, and the Palliative Care and Hospice program at Highland Hospital.

Due to the risks and restrictions posed by the current pandemic, services were held privately by immediate family. We look forward to the future when we are able to hold a memorial service and social gathering to honor our father.
