Jeanette L. Saxby, cherished mother and grandmother, passed away after a brief illness on Thursday, December 9, 2021 at the age of 90.

Jeanette is predeceased by her husband and love of her life, John M. Saxby, and her sister Carolyn M. Toomey. She is survived by her children Kathleen, Laura (John) Lynch, Ellen, John (Nancy), and Teresa Northrup (Kerry Smith); grandchildren Jack, T.J., and Sam Saxby; Michael and Lillian Northrup; Connor Lynch; Taylor and Ian Smith; sisters Barbara L. Biehler and Sr. Ann Marie Lortscher, OCSO; sister-in-law Nellie Colvin; and many nieces and nephews.

Jeanette was a proud native of Victor, N.Y., growing up and later raising her family there, before moving to Webster after more than 70 years in Victor. She graduated from Victor High School and went on to attend Nazareth College where she earned a bachelor’s degree in music. Jeanette’s first job out of college was as music teacher in the Clifton Spring School District where she started the music department. She left to raise her family, later returning to teaching in the Victor School District where she was the “go-to” substitute teacher for more than 30 years. To many of the thousands of young people whose lives she touched, she was simply “Mom S.” The Victor High School class of 1982 included a special yearbook recognition thanking her for helping “each and every one of us grow.”

In 1998, Jeanette was an inaugural recipient of the annual Mothers of the Year Award from the March of Dimes. For her, there was nothing more important than family. Jeanette’s most treasured role in life was being Mom to her five children, and later Nana to her grandchildren. Love of family is her legacy.

Family and friends may call at Miller Funeral and Cremation Services of Victor, Inc, 301 West Main St., Victor, Wednesday, December 15th, 4:00 -7:00 pm. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Church, 115 Maple Ave., Victor, at 10:00 am Thursday.
