Fung-I Tseng
Fung-I Tseng of Pittsford, NY, passed away on Tuesday, January 25, 2022, at the age of 86. He passed away in his sleep peacefully at Strong Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his three daughters (in person and virtually). Fung was born in Pingtung, Taiwan in 1936 to Ying-Lin Tseng and Rung-Mei Li. He was awarded free entrance to National Taiwan University and graduated in 1958. He came to the United States in 1963 where he earned his Ph.D. in electrical engineering at Syracuse University. In 1965, Fung married his wife Ming-jy Chiu in Syracuse, NY and stayed happily married for 55 years. They moved to Pittsford in 1969 where they raised their three daughters and resided for over 50 years.
Fung was a highly regarded professor of Electrical Engineering at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) for over 35 years. He was a long-time member of Christ Clarion Presbyterian Church where he served as Elder, Leader, and Deacon. He loved to read, play chess, watch videos, and listen to music. He also enjoyed outdoor activities such as fishing, hiking around the Finger Lakes, and walking along the canal in Schoen Place. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his 5 adoring grandchildren. Fung will be greatly missed for his positive and cheerful outlook on life, and for the way he always made everyone around him laugh.
Fung is preceded in death by his wife Ming-jy Tseng who passed away in August 2020. He is survived by his daughters: Florence Chung and husband Peter Chung, Helen Tseng, and Vania Tseng and husband Christopher Radtke. He is also survived by his five grandchildren: Ryan and Nicholas Chung, Dakota Tseng, and Ruby and Rocco Radtke.
His joyful and caring spirit will be celebrated at a memorial service at Christ Clarion Church in Pittsford. Due to the current pandemic, it will be private. A memorial tree planting is also being planned for late Spring or Summer.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to RIT and directed to the Tseng Endowed Engineering Scholarship (P.O. Box 92765, Rochester, NY 14692) or to the American Red Cross.
