Mark Stevens, age 70, of Henrietta, passed away on February 7, 2022.
Mark was born on June 26, 1951 in Charleston, South Carolina to the late John and Olivia Stevens. He was also pre-deceased by his father-in-law John Hammond; best friend Michael Vang and sister-in-law Jolie Hammond. Mark is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Cathleen; daughters, Jamie (Jake) Patterson, and Laura (Jacob) Vogt. Loving grandfather to Landon and McKayla Patterson, and Paisley, Madeleine and Joleigh Vogt.
Mark’s career began in 1969 as a machine apprentice at Gleason Works. After several years in the shop he moved to Arbor Engineering as a mechanical designer where he worked for twenty years before being hired by Xerox. His drawing ability and mechanical mind awarded him eight U.S. patents prior to his retirement. Not one to sit still, Mark then worked at Nazareth College in the facilities department before he REALLY retired.
One of Mark’s labors of love included refurbishing a 1972 Monte Carlo. Promising Cathy it would only take three years to complete – it stretched into eight years with 5,000 parts in individual baggies in their basement. Mark did complete the car and they had many years of enjoyment driving it around the state. His other hobbies included refinishing antique furniture for family and friends. He had a knack for taking a piece of furniture that should have been sent to the kindling pile and transforming it back to its original glory. Mark’s greatest joys were time spent with his children and grandchildren. Grandpa was seen on the sidelines at many baseball, basketball, football, soccer and lacrosse games. It didn’t matter what the weather – he always showed up. Always willing to help, Mark will be remembered most for the love he gave his family and friends. Mark is also survived by his two sisters, Bobbie (Jack) Gable and Judy (Steve) Lipetz as well as brothers and sisters in law, Patricia (Thomas) Wood, Michael (Betty) Hammond, Susan Vang, Joan (Bruce) Hunter, Thomas Hammond and thirty nine nieces and nephews.
