Sebastian Florida- Mary L. Cali; 95 passed away on Sunday February 6, 2022.
She was born in Rochester, New York on August 7, 1926. She was predeceased by her husband Dr.
Alfred J. Cali and their son Michael E. Cali; parents, Sarah & Joseph Samere; brother Anthony (and his
wife Beatrice) Samere, sister Anne Weinman. She is survived by her daughter Patricia (Donald) Becker,
and sons Dr. Joseph (Brenda) Cali, Richard (Gail) Cali and Dr. Brian (Sophie) Cali; grandchildren, Tamara,
April, Brock, Jessica, Abigail, Maria, Jessalyn, and ten great grandchildren; brother, Joseph (Shirley)
Samere, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Her love for family couldn’t be matched, and raising
her children and doting on her grandchildren and great grandchildren was her greatest joy.
Mary always had a love for flowers and a warmth with people, which led her to Blair’s Florist shop in
Loudonville, New York, where she worked part time for many years. She also enjoyed cooking, and
taught her kids and grandkids the family recipes. Her manicotti, pasta sauce, chicken soup, molasses
cookies and so many more recipes are delicious reminders of her talents in the kitchen, and the love she
held for those for whom she prepared them. She always said that when cooking pasta, “cook two
pounds, as you never know who might be stopping over for dinner”. And indeed, people frequently
stopped over….she welcomed so many friends and family to her table over the years.
The family would like to thank the staff at Porter Hills Memory Care unit in Grand Rapids, Michigan for
the excellent care they gave Mary while she was living in Michigan.
There will be a Mass for Mary at 10:00 AM on Friday, May 6, 2022 at Saint Boniface Church in Rochester
New York; grave side service will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Rochester New York, following the
Mass.
In lieu of flowers the family is asking for donations to the Alzheimer’s Association or your favorite
charity.
