On April 25, 2022, age 63. Jon is predeceased by his parents, Edward and Lucille Markson. He is survived by his wife, Samia, and 2 children, Alexandra and Brandon; sisters, Margie (Robert) Johnson and Melissa Ellsworth; mother-in-law, June Goodreau; sisters- & brother-in-law, Helen, Peter and Muriel; uncle, Richard (Judie) Markson; nieces, nephews, numerous colleagues and friends.
Jon was a loving, compassionate, and kind husband and father. He was culturally omnivorous, with a notable passion for books, music, and theatre. His many other interests included traveling, DIY projects, history, nature, running, and writing. He attended Fayetteville Manlius schools, SUNY Binghamton, Brandeis University, and later trained as a physician at URMC. Working many years at Strong ER, he deeply enjoyed teaching residents and medical students; he genuinely cared about the wellbeing of all his patients, staff, and colleagues. Jon had the uncanny ability to meaningfully weave his characteristic dry humor into any situation, making others laugh in both their brightest and darkest moments. He will be missed forever by the many who love him.
Family and friends are invited to call on FRIDAY, 1-5 pm at Miller Funeral and Cremation Services (3325 Winton Rd. S), where Jon’s memorial service will be celebrated at 5:30 pm in the Interfaith Chapel at the funeral home. Interment will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Mayo Clinic in his memory; they saved his life in the early 90’s and continue to provide groundbreaking treatments.
