Jacob Anthony Kovacevich passed away peacefully in February 2022 in Rochester (NY). Jacob ‘Jake’ was predeceased by his mother Sandra Kovacevich. He is survived by his father Kenneth Kovacevich, his stepmother and 5 siblings.
Jake was born Grand Rapids Michigan, the youngest child in a loving family, enjoying a childhood living on the beautiful small lake in the countryside . The family moved to Rochester NY during Jake’s school years and he fell in love with the city life. Jake loved playing basketball, skateboarding, and walking around the city enjoying each adventure. He also had a great appreciation of anything 1980’s, pop culture, TV shows, video games, and especially music. Combining his eidetic memory with his love of the 80’s, he could recite many important dates in the entertainment world. Jake also remembered birthdays, anniversaries or milestones of friends and family throughout his life – and could also tell you what music was playing and what people were wearing that day. He enjoyed sharing these memories with his family.
Jake also lived with mental illness his whole life. He spent many years as a youth and adult working through programs to live as good of life as possible. His sister Gina and her family were especially close with him, providing support and time with family for the past several years as the only remaining family members in the Rochester area. Jake wanted very much to be a part of a family, a neighborhood, a community and worked very hard to be accepted. One special friendship brought a beloved cat named Lola into his life over the past couple of years, she had a profound impact on his life as he cared for her. Jake was loved and is greatly missed by his father, sister, family and friends.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Marianne Cope Roman Catholic Parish on Monday May 23rd at 10:30 am at 2061 E. Henrietta Rd, Rochester, NY 14623. Interment will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery in Rush NY.
