Susan V. Rashid was born in Kerala, India. She studied and trained to be a nurse at Vellore Christian Medical College, and later moved to Saudi Arabia to work as a nurse for Aramco, which is where she met her husband as well as many lifelong friends. Susan and her husband moved to Rochester, NY in 1970, settling in Pittsford, NY, where they raised their three children.
Susan passed away suddenly on May 5, 2022. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Dr. Husayn A. Rashid; her daughter (Rola) and two sons (Hani and Sami); her grandchildren (Devon, Lea, Noura and Viggo); her daughters-in-law (Megan and Kristina) and son-in-law (Christopher); six of her brothers (Ben, Jacob, Mathew, Alex, Johny, and Sajan), her two sisters (Mariamma and Anney), their families, and the family of her late brother, George; as well as numerous other loving relatives and friends.
Susan was a masterful cook, a vibrant and principled wife and mother, and a force to be reckoned with. She was firm in her beliefs and selfless in her actions. She had a deep sense of humor, a wonderful laugh, and a mischievous grin. She was an ardent fan of NBA basketball. She and her husband were devoted to each other with a love that never faltered. She became the matriarch of her large clan of siblings, and was a bedrock for many others. Most of all, she was endlessly caring and loving, with her family and friends. For all of these reasons and so many more, she will be deeply missed, and we mourn her passing.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Vellore Christian Medical Foundation (WEBSITE) in her memory. Under “How would you like your gift to be used?,” please select: Ms. Aleyamma Kuruvilla Nursing Scholarship Fund, which helps under-privileged nursing students receive an outstanding nursing education.
