Ellen Lucinda Washburn, 81, of Lyons NY passed away unexpectedly from a sudden and brief illness on May 17, 2022 at Newark Wayne Community Hospital.
Ellen was born to Olsen and Dorothy Johnston on November 17, 1941. After her father passed away, her mother remarried to Fred Catherman whom raised her and her siblings. They considered him their dad. She was 1 of 10 kids. She had 3 sisters and 6 brothers.
Ellen was a proud army mom to her two sons. She also had four grandchildren and three great grandchildren whom she loved very much.
Activities that Ellen enjoyed in life included baking, gardening, crocheting, arts and crafts, playing bingo, cheating at cards, watching old western tv shows and movies, and eating at the Newark Diner while it was still in town. Ellen also enjoyed serving on the Marbletown Fire Dept and VFW auxiliaries.
Ellen resided at Sodus Rehabilitation and Nursing center the last few years of her life where unfortunately due to her progressive Alzheimer’s she stopped doing the things she loved. However while there she become known and loved for spending all of her time sitting around the nurses station eavesdropping and being the wing gossiper. She loved talking to her family on the phone or via FaceTime and loved coming home for visits with the family.
Ellen is survived by her brother Lester Blauvelt (New York); two sisters Brenda Futis (Texas), Elaine Eggerling (Arizona); many nieces and nephews; her oldest son Howard Washburn Jr; four grandchildren Kayla, Kristin, Adam and Faith Washburn; and three great grandchildren Aubrey, MaKinleigh, and Jonah.
Ellen is predeceased by her parents Olsen Johnston, Fred and Dorothy Catherman; brothers Royce, Ronnie, Roland, Olin, Olsen, Orsen; her sister Evelyn; her ex husband Howard Washburn Sr; her mother in law Aimee Houdeshell, her youngest son John Washburn, her long time friend Francis Lauferswiler, and her daughter in law Michele Washburn.
Friends and family may call FRIDAY May 20, 2022 from 4-7 at Miller Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc., 3325 Winton Rd. S., Rochester, NY 14623. Service and interment private.
